Levitch Design Australia bowls Sydney dentist over with utter professionalism, fast turnaround and awesome colours!

Dr David Bachmayer wanted to reflect his dual passions of dentistry and photography in the renovation of his orthodontic clinic. The Principal Dentist of The Bachmayer Orthodontic Clinic was clear in what he wanted: A bespoke design that was stylish and contemporary, yet bold and fresh in its use of colours.

For the look and feel, the orthodontist favours a “light, bright and clear” ambience over the warm, spa-like interiors that mark many modern establishments. The clinic’s palette of hues should further complement Dr Bachmayer’s own photography works, which he wanted to showcase as part of an overarching design theme. The shutterbug has a unique penchant for capturing Antarctica life and landscape.

“Colour,” Dr Bachmayer stresses, “was always going to be very important to me.”

“I had a good idea of layout but needed advice on colour and soft furnishings.”

Other considerations included a layout that promotes easy human traffic flow within the busy premises and family-friendly operatory that made it easy for parents and siblings to accompany the in-chair patient, without obstructing the clinical workflow.

After laying out the broad design concept – including several specific requirements – Dr Bachmayer relied on the creative brains at Levitch Design Australia to come up with the rest. The fit out firm had met the dentist’s requisites for “quality work, great designs, good taste in colour and a meticulous attention to details”.

Dr Bachmayer was convinced LDA had what it takes to flesh out his vision with the right balance of aesthetics and functional layout. What he wasn’t expecting was the excellent project management, professional conduct and timely delivery.

“I found the entire staging and management of project – which came in on budget and on time with no variations – simply incredible.

“Although LDA had to work with a very tight deadline, the team executed the project exceptionally well. All management staff were extremely courteous and helpful even when we changed our mind a number of times. Project management was excellent and always obliging.”

If Dr Bachmayer’s compliments helped shine a light on LDA’s remarkable contributions behind the scenes, the finished project qualified the praise. From whichever angle, The Bachmayer Orthodontic Clinic looks every bit as professional as it is aesthetically pleasing.

The clinic appears like a cross between a hip Silicon Valley type outfit and the upscale healthcare establishment that TBOC is. What gave it the techy start-up look is the interesting combination of modern hues: Chartreuse green, arctic blue, ash grey, etc. Remarkably, the bold colours support but never steal the thunder from Dr Bachmayer’s arresting photographic prints.

Littered throughout the massive interiors of the 8-chair practice are ingenious ideas that mix fun and function. The creative rendering of logos is a good example.

TBOC’s company logo – which looks like the bold outline of an inverted comma – is cleverly displayed throughout the clinic in different colours, materials and styles. Twenty-two such logo renders form a tile-like motif on an operatory door that repurposes the hatchway into a swinging artwork. Another logo on a lime green paneled wall has a smiley face in it. Perhaps the cleverest of logo-inspired decor is one where the void space becomes a hole in the wall, into which children can climb for a bit of fun – Dr Bachmayer says it’s been an absolute hit with toddlers.

Even the sterilization ‘room’ has been reimagined into a circular hub that opens up to the common space. Around the steri hub, five dental treatment units are positioned like carriages in a carousel to make full use of the generous floorspace.

The circular theme can also be found in the patient waiting area, where a large round table enjoins a giant magazine or TV rack, depending on which side you’re facing. Professionally decked out, the magazine browsing corner resembles more the lounge area of a boutique hotel. The same goes for the reception counter, with its array of potted plants helping to complete the welcoming atmosphere.

From design to execution, Dr Bachmayer gives the LDA team an “A+ score” in every single category. He was especially impressed by the team’s quick turnaround and how they worked in awareness of other tenants in the busy building – making sure construction noise was always kept to a minimum. Of course, Dr Bachmayer couldn’t be happier with the colours:

“The (colour) choices LDA made were spot on and they work so well with my photography.”

As for customer experience, the proud owner of an absolutely delightful orthodontic oasis concludes:

“They met all the challenges. From a customer point of view, it was an almost stress-free experience.

“Given the scope of the undertaking and the extensive work required, that is saying a lot!”
